Vailes Home Improvement Services, a family owned full-service design/ build remodeling company, has been serving Waynesboro and Augusta County families for more than 30 years. Vailes’ attention to detail and customer service in that time has led to a reputation as one of delivering quality work from its staff of about 15. This year, the Fishersville-based company was voted as a 2019 Valley Favorite in two categories, builder and remodeling company. The company, started in 1987 by brothers Chuck and Robert Vailes, performs most of the production work in-house to provide greater quality control over the remodeling process and the finished product. Service manager Samantha Vailes — Chuck’s daughter — has had a firsthand view of the business for many years, having “started at the very bottom of the totem pole.” Samantha, a 2018 graduate of James Madison University, said as a family-run business, she’s had a hand in helping out around the office, including dispatching crews for Vailes’ heating and air and plumbing work, since she was a kid. “They started out doing remodeling, then expanded to other areas” she said. “We stay pretty booked out [on remodeling jobs].” Kitchen and bath improvements are where Vailes’ craftsmen spend most of their time, she said. “Were design-build, we focus on doing everything under one roof,” Samantha Vailes said. Historic renovation is one particular area of expertise the company offers. According to Vailes, the company’s craftsmen strive to renew the strength and beauty of older structures without sacrificing the features that make them special. Services include architectural preservation, plaster and masonry repair, patio and walk installation, and interior or exterior finishes. Vailes promises that as part of its restoration of older buildings that it will improve their appearance. The service, according to the company, is highly customized and Vailes craftsmen respect that every homeowner has unique tastes and needs. “That’s where the company started out with, historic renovation,” Samantha Vailes said. Much of that work has been done in downtown Staunton, although other jobs have taken Vailes’ crews to historic structures throughout Augusta County and Waynesboro, she said. “We work closely with the customer to ensure an optimal design, efficient product selection and production process, and an excellent end product,” she said. The company also works to train new craftsmen to do the detailed work. “A lot of it is through hands-on learning ... we mentor new employees,” Vaile said, adding the business has become involved with a pilot class at Waynesboro Schools new CTE center in building trades. Vailes Brothers also has worked with area vocational education programs at Valley Career and Technical Center. “We want to give kids in high schools a chance to get involved in trades,” Vailes said. Knowing that the business has earned the trust and satisfaction of its customers, as evidenced by repeatedly being name among the Valley Favorites, also validates Vailes Brothers Inc. and Vailes Home Improvement Services many years of service to the community. “It’s always wonderful,” Samantha said. “We love to be involved in the community, always humbling to get that response. It’s nice to have that award behind our name. “We like to focus on repeat [business]. We do rely on word-of-mouth.”
