Targeted storm debris pickup blitz planned for Greenbrier and Locust Grove
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – The City of Charlottesville is conducting a seven-day storm debris pickup blitz in designated portions of the Greenbrier and Locust Grove neighborhoods following the recent storm. The blitz began Monday, August 17, and will continue through Sunday, August 23.
This targeted collection is limited to areas most significantly impacted by the storm and is not a citywide pickup. Only properties located within the shaded areas on the accompanying map are eligible. Because some streets extend beyond the designated collection area, residents should use the map to confirm whether their property is eligible.
Residents within the designated area must place all eligible storm-related vegetative debris at the curb no later than Sunday, August 23. Debris placed at the curb after the deadline will not be collected as part of this special pickup.

Collection guidelines
The City will collect storm-related tree branches, limbs, and similar vegetative debris. Brush must be no more than 10 feet long and no greater than 6 inches in diameter.
Residents should:
- Place brush in a separate pile and avoid mixing with other debris.
- Place debris neatly at the curb in front of the property where it originated, with cut ends facing the same direction when possible.
- Keep debris clear of streets, sidewalks, gutters, drainage ditches, driveways, storm drains, fire hydrants, mailboxes, utility poles, parked vehicles, motorists' sightlines, and overhead utility lines.
Piles containing ineligible materials will not be collected.
Materials that will not be collected
The City will not collect household trash, furniture, appliances, construction or demolition materials, posts, boards, fencing, treated or dimensional lumber, other manufactured wood, chemicals or hazardous materials, whole trees, root balls, stumps, logs or trunk sections larger than six inches in diameter, loose leaves, grass clippings, routine yard waste, or other material unrelated to the recent storm.
Contractor-generated debris
Debris generated by a paid contractor is not eligible for City collection. If a contractor cuts or trims trees, shrubs, or hedges, the contractor or property owner is responsible for removing and properly disposing of the resulting material.
Materials that do not qualify for this special collection should be handled through the City's regular large-item pickup program, where eligible, or through another appropriate disposal service.
Residents with questions about the collection area or eligible debris may contact the Public Service Division at 434-970-3895.
