City of Charlottesville and ReadyKids to celebrate new accessible playground
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – Children at ReadyKids now have a new place to play, explore, and spend time outdoors with an accessible playground designed with a wider range of abilities and therapeutic benefit in mind. The City of Charlottesville and ReadyKids will celebrate the completion of the new playground with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, September 25, from 10–11 a.m. at 1000 East High Street.
A Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) from the City of Charlottesville served to jumpstart the renovation, and was completed in July after approximately a year and a half of planning, fundraising, and construction.
The new space includes accessible paths throughout the playground, a chalk wall, and native and drought-resistant plants that bring natural elements into the play area. The project was built in partnership with COHORT Landscape Architecture, Abrahamse & Company Builders, and University of Virginia Sawmilling, which helped bring the playground design to life.
Representatives from ReadyKids, the City of Charlottesville, and COHORT Landscape Architecture will speak during the ribbon-cutting ceremony and recognize the partners who helped make the new playground possible.
The playground renovation is part of the city’s ongoing investment in community partners and their spaces, promoting welcoming and accessible experiences for local kids and families.
