CPD investigates early morning shooting that injured three individuals
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - At approximately 1:37 a.m., patrol officers responded to multiple calls reporting shots fired in the parking lot near the 1100 block of 5th St SW.
Upon arrival, officers located three victims suffering from gunshot wounds: a 74-year-old man, a 19-year-old man, and a 17-year-old juvenile male.
Officers on scene immediately rendered life-saving aid, applying tourniquets to the injured victims. This rapid response is believed to have been instrumental in saving all three lives. All three victims are currently in stable condition.
Preliminary investigation, aided by video surveillance, indicates the incident began as an altercation in the parking area on the west side of the building before shots were fired from within a vehicle.
This remains an active and ongoing investigation; CPD will provide updates as the investigation develops.
The suspect has been identified as 20-year-old Nysoun Gardner. He has been charged with the following:
3 counts of malicious wounding
3 counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony
1 count of possession of a firearm as a felon
